Weekend Wrap-up

How was everyone's weekend? We had a fun, productive one! Until day, that is. The rain has slowed us down but that's ok! It's Mother's Day! I guess I'm supposed to take a break.

I'm going to back up a bit and rewind to Thursday night. We were invited to the movie premiere of Farmland, a documentary telling the story of different types of farmers from livestock farmers to ranchers to organic vegetable farmers.

My movie date!

Last week was Happy Hour at Starbucks, half price frappuchinos. We stopped there on the way home from school Friday afternoon for a sugary treat before we cut out sugar tomorrow.

Saturday morning I woke up bright and early to meet my co-workers at the state fairgrounds to volunteer at the JDRF walk. It was super early and a little rainy but it was fun to get out and get my day started early for a good cause.

Once my duties were completed at the walk the sun had burned off the rain clouds and it was a perfect morning to stroll the market. Going by myself to take my time and ask the vendors many questions is a rare treat! I'm so glad it's market time again in the city!

Another sugar filled treat! Had to get one of these in this month. The cheese danishes from La Mie are one of my favorites from the market. If you haven't had one, you are missing out!

When I finally got back home I had a great surprise waiting for me! These two standing at the door with some fun surprises!! I was definitely spoiled this weekend!

Since the weather was so nice Saturday afternoon I spent it getting the last of my garden planted and my compost bin set up! I'm so happy to be able to get to enjoy these hobbies again. I've had container plants for years but it's just not the same as dropping seeds in a line in the ground. I try to help at mom and dad's house as much as I can throughout the planting and growing season, but I'm so excited to get to do it at my own home this season!

This morning we went down the street for Hy-Vee's fabulous brunch spread. They have a great brunch every weekend but on holiday weekends it's even better!

A rainy morning brought with it a great excuse to lay around, watch a movie, and blog! Now on to finishing up my meal plan and grocery shopping for the week. It's going to be a little different this time around as I'm watching closely for sugar and dairy in the ingredient lists.

If you are a mom, I hope you are having an awesome Mother's Day. If not a mom, I hope you've been showing your own mom lots of love today!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone!!
