Weekend Getaway to Dubuque and Galena

One year ago this weekend, my best friend Kristyn and I headed east to Dubuque and Galena, IL for a little girls trip to celebrate her birthday. I never did get around to posting about it last year, but I really wanted to get it documented here to remember the places we ate and shopped. Better late than never right? :)

For ease, though, I thought I'd share collage style! :)

Friday night we chose a popular restaurant, Pepper Sprout, and had the best soup of our life, a corn chowder. We both still dream and salivate over this soup. We even thought about stopping by the restaurant the next day to see if there were any leftovers for us to take to-go! So, so good!

Saturday morning we found a coffee shop in a little shopping area. A good find for a simple but delicious breakfast!

After a full day of shopping and seeing the sights of Galena, we chose One Eleven Main for dinner. It was locally sourced with an emphasis on fresh and flavorful dishes. Before dinner we sat at the bar for awhile and sipped on the most amazing black cherry mojito.

There was antique and food shops galore up and down the streets of Galena. Both Kristyn and I loved the shopping there and we found some fun foods and wine to bring back home with us.

The area on the east side of Iowa is just beautiful. We went down by the river and saw some amazing views.

The town of Galena is so historical and pretty. Fall is the perfect time to visit. There's so much to see there and everything we did see, we're already anxious to see it again. Another trip next year may be in order :)

Have you been to Galena, IL?
