Weekly Update- This and That

Long time, no talk! :)

What can I say?? It's summer, we've had lots going on, work has been crazy busy, and to add to that, I just haven't felt like blogging. Too much fun to have and when that's not happening I just didn't want to spend my nights in front of a computer screen. Please forgive me ;)

I'll do my best to catch you up with what's been going on lately!

Kaydin had a dentist appointment during a busy time at work last week. I had already rescheduled her appointment once and when I tried again it would've been until September before she got in. We made the quick trip to the dentist's office and then I brought her back to the office with me since I had to get a few more things accomplished for the day. Kaydin went into the conference for a bit and did some writing on the whiteboard. I forgot to check it out before we left for the night and this is what I found the next morning when walking into a meeting with my boss, Dr. Gray! Ha!
It reads: Hi Dr. Gray, Is Mollie going good? Are you teaching her stuff? I hope so. Well Mollie has told me a lot even I already know you. Well goodbye!
After the craziness of a packed work-week I was happy to enjoy some sweet wine on Friday night. It was a little sweet for Tim's liking but I love it! It's a strawberry rhubarb flavor from Santa Maria Winery in Carroll, Iowa. I've mentioned them a few times here and I just love their selection. They've got lots of fun sweet types like blackberry, apple, and peach. They visit the Downtown Farmer's Market here and there through the season and are also selling at more and more Iowa grocery stores around the state. Try a bottle if you haven't already!

Saturday morning it took a little persuading but I got both Tim and Kaydin to hit the farmer's market with me! We were in and out pretty quickly as it was heating up and the sun was beating down, but we did hit the strawberry smoothie and breakfast burrito stand. We also brought home some chemical-free kale, a new basil plant and some fresh onion bread from Big Sky Bread.

Saturday night I had a fun evening planned with some high school friends. Kati's (the one in the middle) bachelorette party was Saturday night! My other good friend from high school was there, too! April lives in Texas now so I was really happy she was there, it had been a while since I'd last seen her.

Kati with her mom and sister.
We started off with some fun and games at the hotel and then made our way to Blue Moon Piano Bar for dinner and fish bowls. I had to leave before we ventured anywhere else, Kaydin was at a gymnastics event, but I think Kati had a pretty fun night ;)

Earlier this month I started the "no-poo" routine. That is to say not using shampoo to wash my hair-- and only washing it about twice per week. Instead I use baking soda and vinegar. Sounds gross and weird but actually it's really easy and works well. I'll probably do a more detailed post on this in the next few weeks but here are some fun, easy hairstyles I've pulled together recently between my washes. My hair feels fuller and thicker and holds better for these hairstyles than before I feel.

Last Sunday we headed up to Big Creek Park for a grill-out with Tim's Mom's side of the family. It's always nice to see and hang out with his side of the family. And Kaydin loves it because she gets to hang out with her cousin, Akeleigh. They are such goofballs together and always have a good time.

Backing up a bit to June 11th....my friend Summer had her baby!! Baby Charlie was one week overdue and we were all so anxious (especially Mom!) to see her. The day after she was born Traci, Kaydin and I made the trip to meet the new addition to our little circle of friends.

Kaydin instantly fell in love and never wanted to give her up! She would give her back to me to hold and then not a minute later would want her again. She woulda snuck her home in my purse if she could've gotten away with it!

We're headed over to see Summer and Charlotte again tomorrow and I think I'll be fighting to get my time to hold with Kaydin again! ;)

Earlier this week I threw together a quick pizza using ingredients we already had on hand. I've stopped using sauce on pizza when I make it at home and just do a light drizzle of olive oil. I like that way better than the traditional tomato sauce. And it's easier, one less ingredient needed! This one had Genoa salami, black olives, kale, and mozzarella cheese.

Last night Kaydin, my friend Kristyn, and I headed to the ballpark and watched our local softball team. In all the years I've been in Des Moines I hadn't gone to a local softball game (besides Kaydin's). It was hot! But fun to watch some talented girls play the game.

When it hasn't been raining (and even between rain clouds) Kaydin and I have been hopping on our bikes to ride the sidewalks and trails close to home. It's been a lot of fun exploring with her and riding around the neighborhood.

This weekend is going to be packed with fun events. Kati's wedding in is Ames Friday night, and we're headed to Omaha Saturday morning for the weekend with Mom, Dad, and Josh for Dad's annual company outing. While there we're hittin' up the zoo and water park. Should be a fun weekend! Come Sunday afternoon Tim and I will be traveling back home on our own for some much needed alone time while Kaydin spends the week with her Grammy and Papa for the 4th of July! Can't wait for some time with Tim that doesn't involve a six year old always needing to squirm her way in the middle!
And one last thing-- huge sad face happening over here :(
Monday Google Reader will officially be dunzo! Still haven't made an official decision about Feedly or Bloglovin'. I've just been in denial and still use Reader! Sunday night though will have to be the last time I use it. :(
